Across the world ISO Management Systems are on the increase. Generally, according to the latest ISO figures from the *ISO 2016 world survey, Management Systems rose 8%.
But what is happening in the United Arab Emirates?
It’s mixed news, but with 2 of the most popular ISO management systems going through a transition phase this is to be expected.
Between 2015 and 2016 the number of ISO9001 Quality Management System certified businesses in the UAE actually fell by 263. I believe this is due to many of the ISO9001:2008 certified businesses not bothering to transition to the new 2015 standard and letting their certification lapse!
In fact, at the end of the 2016 ISO survey, only 150 of the 4682 businesses in the UAE with ISO 9001, were ISO9001:2015 accredited! So, the other 4532 need to start thinking about transitioning in the next 11 months to meet the cut-off deadline!
The take up on ISO14001 was a little better with 29 new certificates being issued to UAE businesses. Again, this standard is in the transition phase to the new ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System. This brings the total of ISO14001, both 2004 and 2015 standard certified businesses in the UAE to 920 of which 71 are ISO14001:2015 standard.
Similar was the increase of the Food Safety Management System, ISO22000:2005, with an increase of 50 new certificates being issued bringing the total to 204 certified to UAE food industry businesses.
As more and more businesses in the UAE realise the benefits of the ISO management systems the growth will continue, enhancing business prospects regionally and globally.
