Why an ISO?

July 29, 2016

Welcome to our blog. We'll be posting hints, tips and advice that we've picked-up whilst guiding businesses through the ISO accreditation process.

One question that all ISO Consultants will face, Why an ISO? It's a very good and valuable question.  So I'll give you my answer;

Because it shows you care about your business and in doing so your customers satisfaction.

But it's deeper than that. I've said in our Facebook posts ( that an ISO can bring several benefits, again both for your business and your customers. So let's look at them again.

  • Best practice will help you improve your product, process and service quality, increase customer satisfaction levels and improve productivity.

  • Can give you the edge, even in situations or industries where certification to ISO 9001 is not a contractual obligation or expectation.

  • Simpler for you to develop a single management system that meets the requirements of this and other key standards, e.g., ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, so cutting down on duplication and costs.

  • Increase staff retention, staff commitment and staff morale

  • Reduce wasted materials and more importantly wasted time.

Another question I've faced often, How long will it take? Again my answer;

That depends on the size and complexity of your business, but it will take a minimum of 3 months after implementation. That's because during this period, the Embedment period, we set the system to work and see if there are any shortfalls in procedures, reports, meetings etc. If there are they can be addressed before the accreditation audit.  It also allows your business to build up the evidence that the External Auditor will require, so he/she can be assured that the system in place does what you say its' suppose to do.
